Physical Therapist Assistant Major?

My local schools don’t offer a "PTA" program, but they do offer Biology. Would I be able to get a degree in Biology and then sit for the PTA exam, or is it imperative that I graduate from a designated PTA program which seem to be rather limited in terms of locations.
